Syncing from one Contact folder to many

Good Day All,

We have a client coming up against the age old issue of Public Folder contacts not syncing with their phone contacts. The client is on Office 365. In the past, we’ve used Add2Exchange or similar pieces of software to accomplish this, but I was hoping to automate it using PowerShell this time, as the client is much larger which makes it less economical to purchase the software.

I like the look of the Search-Mailbox command, the only issue I see is I can’t specify a “source folder.” I can use search strings, however, and was wondering if there was a way to run a search using KQL for just contact objects in an Exchange mailbox. Additionally, I was planning on seeing if it created duplicates or not, but if anyone knows off the top of their heads, that would be helpful. I think I can use search string to look for changed items using the datetime “yesterday” option, and just running the script after midnight, to mitigate the issue and amount of time the script takes to run…

From there, I would schedule the script to run daily and return a value based on how well it does, as well as create a log I could check for issues. I can then have my Nagios server watch the return values for anything unexpected, and look at the detailed log if anything goes red.

Is anyone else doing anything similar? What are other admins doing to solve this? Is there a better way? The users want to be able to operate their phones like the contacts are in their contacts folders, and I can’t think of any other way than to actually have them there.

Thanks for your time and consideration,

Ricky
