We are running Exchange 2013 SP1 VMS on a Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition. Our environment consist of
DC1, DC2 as domain controllers and they also keep DNS
ET1 and ET2 as Edge Transport servers
MX1 and MX2 as Mailbox and Client Access Roles
Sometimes, we randomly see that mails are getting stuck at queue and internal users do not get any email from external senders. We want to monitor state of Queue Viewer at Edge Transport Servers and trigger an alert, when Status of desired queue falls into Retry state.
Initially, we have identified that this issue with queue was happening because of external DNS specified at NICs of MX and ET servers. We just cleared external DNS and restarted Transport Service. Mails started flowing again. However, we want to handle this issue rapidly, next time it occurs again.
So my questions:
1) Can we create an email alert and notify an external recipient when this issue occurs?
2) Can we create a scheduled task to restart Transport Service in the event this issue repeats itself?
Thanks,
