Hi everyone,
We are decommissioning our Exchange 2010 server (EXG1 and EXG2) after a successful migration to Exchange 2013. EXG1 used to be our front end server, and was really the only one that ever did anything at all as the front end wasn't even installed on EXG 2. All mailboxes have been moved to our new 2013 mailbox servers and our new CAS has been running as the front end for several weeks.
We did a test shutdown last night on EXG 1 and EXG 2 to prepare to get rid of the old servers. Our basic email tests seemed good. We left the two servers off overnight. Some end users however did not receive external emails and other users were having trouble composing e-mails in outlook as outlook would freeze when you hit compose. Turning the servers back on immediately corrected the issue.
Is this test procedure wrong? What would be the correct procedure? If the procedure is not wrong where would the goofiness come from?
Thanks for any help you a give.
