Exchange 2010 - Deleted Items Retention Date

Hi,

I am trying to set up a retention tag to delete messages from the 'Deleted Items' folder after 7 days.

I have the tag assigned to a policy. The policy contains other tags, however they are all Personal Tags.

For my test case I am using none of the personal tags, so the only tag being applied should be the Deleted Items tag.

According to everything I have read about retention date calculations for the 'Deleted Item's folder, I am expecting that the messages should be deleted 7 days after they are moved to the Deleted Items folder, regardless of their delivery date.

For some reason I am seeing the opposite. If I delete a message from my Inbox that is 14 days old it expires immediately.

What am I missing here?
