Remove Archive Mailbox for Valid User Account

I have Exchange 2013 in a single forest domain. I have 5 users, and at one time I set up archiving for retention. I have since moved to a third party solution, using MailStore for archiving instead. Now I have a secondary archive database taking up 30 GB of space, and I wish to remove it entirely. I do not need any data in the database, but the user accounts that the archives were attached to I do need. I have disabled archiving for all users and removed retention policies. I have ran a forced mailbox cleanup command to prune the archive, but the accounts remain.

Everything I read says if I remove the archive I will also be removing the user from AD, and the main mailbox as well. If I dismount the database and delete the files, I will be left with pointers in AD and have to go in with ADSI Edit.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Chris
