Hi all!
I want some help for the following problem. Today, one of our customers (using Exchange 2003 SP2) called me and told that she's messages from inbox folder had disappeared. Only mails from last evening are in place and the subfolders of her inbox. First I tried to take a look in OWA and found that this is not a sync issue, all the messages in Exchange disappeared too. They are not in deleted items folder. According to the Exchange policy it keeps deleted items for 7 days. I had checked the recoverable deleted items but there's nothing special. Her mailbox's size is a few megabytes higher than it was 2-3 days ago so I think all data is available in Exchange and in the OST file too. I tried scanost.exe on the ost file, finding a few errors which was successfully corrected but nothing changed. Then i tried to download a small program to convert ost to pst and tried to import the inbox from that but inbox was empty in the created pst so no change again. I tried to export the inbox with Exmerge, first i got errors then i successfully exported the first 2 gb of data. Then i tried to export just the inbox folder which produced a 32k small pst file without any messages.
A few hours later i had taken the mailbox store to offline and do an integrity check, running isinteg and eseutil with /g, but found nothing special in the output. Finally i had done a recovery storage group to backup the mailbox store from a day old backup. It was finished the job successfully and after a few problems I mounted it and started an exmerge process again. It was produced a 32k pst file again, from the recovered mailbox store.
Now i'm out of idea what to do. I hope there's anyone who have ever seen something similar and have an idea with a solution and maybe with an answer how this problem was generated to not fall in this in the future. Please help!
