Exchange 2010 Quota and Archiving dilemma, what would you do?

"I was looking to post in exchange 2010, please move if needed, the category and options didn't had exchange 2010".

So,

I have been working with Archiving, Retention Tags and Policies for a while in a virtual environment.

I think I've got the hang of it.

I only have one question about it.

In my workplace the organization was deployed without quotas, archiving etc.

So now I want to implement them.

If Say I have messages in my Inbox from 2004 and I set a policy to delete messages from inbox after 3 months.

Does that mean messages from 2004 will be deleted?

The other question is, If I have a database with default quota and I try to move a mailbox that exceeds that quota, will it move?

What would you do?

We got almost 900 users, around 10 of those have mailboxes above 10Gb and 2 users above 29Gb, the rest of the users range from 1Gb up to 10.

What I have at my disposal:

I have a 1.8Tb where I placed 4 new databases.

One for each group, 1 database will have default quotas. Others will have quotas but will be up to 5Gb (Which I think it's too much but anyway).

I have a 6Tb disk that I plan to use for archiving. I thought about giving users the same size as their mailbox or maybe half of that?

Thank you for your time and suggestions.

Much appreciated,

Ed
