Management role READ scope?

$

I can't seem to figure this out but how do I create a management role assignment that the READ is scoped as well as the WRITE? I'm able to scope the write but the parameters like "RecipientReadScope" is not able to be modified.

So when the user does Get-Mailbox they can see everything in the organization.

SendAs error. "Value cannot be null. Parameter name: domainName"

Hello, this is my first time here so I hope I'm doing this right. I'm a Desktop guy of 4 years kind of thrown into an admin role so I am geeking out with my learning on the job. :-)

Situation:

1. We have Office 365 and an On Prem hybrid server.

2. The issue is that 2 out of 4 users cannot Send As from a certain distribution group. I removed the users from the On Prem server, let it sync up to the cloud and then re-added them. Still not working.

3. I decided to try and remove their SendAs permission from within the browser, on the "Office 365" side because the "Enterprise" section is the On Prem side. I pulled the above error that "Value cannot be null. Parameter name: domainName"

4. I created a test group and tried granting myself SendAs and I pulled the same error.

Here is what I got with my test group.

PS C:\Users\mhauckes\Desktop\O365Powershell> Add-RecipientPermission TestForMikeDistroGroup -Trustee myemailaddress -AccessRights SendAs

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Is it possible to raise the 25% memory limit? I've read that it is hard coded but what I read was over a year old. I find that 25% is pretty low and would like to allocate more than 25% to improve the hit cache.

Exchange 2013 Export user mailbox to PST from user in Child Domain using EAC.

Hello,

We have multiple Active Directory domains in our network. One primary domain and multiple child domains.
We have a Exchange 2013 CU10 environment without a DAG.
A lot of users are placed on a child domain.

I am able to export user mailboxes in the primary domain using the shell and EAC.
I am able to export user mailboxes from the child domains using the shell with the -domaincontroller switch.
I cannot export the user mailbox to pst using EAC.
This would be very helpfull for the helpdesk. They export the mailbox to pst before the user is deleted.

The error i get:
The operation couldn`t be performed because object 'dsf8d89-76ds-df6dsf786dsf' couldn`t be found on 'primary domain controller'.

Looked al over the internet for this. This question is asked a lot on forums but there is no correct answer.

Can anyone help me.....

Database size increased by 5GB - Who did it?

Hi

We have just upgraded to Exchange 2013 from 2010 and I'm just getting used to using Exchange Shell...I come from a 2003 background.

Over the weekend one of our databases increased by just over 5 GB.  Is there a way I can find out who's dumped 5GB into their mailbox?.

If not, is there a script I can run in future on a regular basis (weekly) thatidentifies who has added significant amounts?

Thanks
Tony

Cannot Sign in to EAC get HTTP 500 Internal Server error

Folks, appreciate your help here. I get the error when trying to log on to the on-premise Exchange 2013 EAC (hybrid). Few other admins also get the same error but only one admin doesn't have the error and manage to log on to EAC. We don't get the error when logging on to the cloud/Office 365 EAC, only happened on-premise.

Thanks and appreciate your responses.

Exchange server versions mystery

$

I recently applied RU13 to my Exchange Server 2010 SP3 installation - or at least, I think that's what I did.

Now if I run the PS command  "Get-ExchangeServer | Format-List Name, Edition, AdminDisplayVersion"

It returns 14.3.123.4 which is the version number for SP3 with no rollups applied.

I read that the only sure way to find the version number is to look at the version info for exsetup.exe in the bin folder so I did that and it shows 14.3.294.0 which is the version for SP3/RU13 and therefore looks correct.

However the timestamp for that file is 25/2/16 which is before RU13 came out; how can this be?

Can anyone explain what's going on here and whether I actually do have RU13 installed?

Expand database disks

Hi

I have Exchange 2013 (fully patched) on 3 virtual servers (one of which is offsite) in a 3 node DAG.  There are 4 databases (2 active on each server in the office), each of which is on it's own vhdx.  The database disk free size on one is down to 16.6% and I've been asked to draw up an action plan to increase the disk size for each database by 100GB (currently stands at 500GB) before this gets too low.

My draft plan would be:

  1. Switchover all databases to one server
  2. Shutdown the server
  3. In Hyper-V, increase the disk size of all database disks
  4. Start the server
  5. Move the databases back
  6. Repeat for the remaining servers

Are there any caveats/glaring problems/better solutions with/to this approach?

Thanks
Tony

The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable

I've got one thorny Outlook 2010 connection issue. One user on a Windows 7 machine with good network connectivity, cannot create a profile and gets the error message below. I can log into the same machine and my profile creates perfectly. I've tried deleting their mail profile, deleting their Windows profile, all to no avail. When they login to another system, they get the same thing. Our mailboxes are on Exchange 2013. Is there a tool I could download that might help pinpoint the issue with this one user not being able to connect?

Selective calendar permissions?

$

Hi

We have set permissions on all employee calendars to so that all, but private, appointments are visible for everybody(free/busy, time, subject, location).

Management want to know if it is possible to hide «tentative invitations», until they are accepted?

Their challenge is that the content of tentative invitations is visible for everybody, and may contains information that a manager do not want to share with everyone, before she/he accepts it.

is this possible to achieve?

(OL2010 on Exch2013 platform)

Thanks:-)

Exchange 2013 SSL Certification Configuration Issue: Cannot get Exchange to use GoDaddy Certificate

$

Hello,

I am using Exchange 2013 at my house. Wife bought a new iPhone. With our windows phone, I merely "installed" the self-signed certificate and it would work. That isn't happening on the iPhone 6S plus.

I had Exchange 2010, my GoDaddy cert was assigned and used properly by OWA / SMTP etc. Now under 2013... while is "shows" that it is, for the life of me I cannot get the dang certificate to be used.

I don't know if it's an issue with the setting in Exchange itself or within IIS itself.

I have, like all several certificates. 5 to be exact. I have 1 that is self signed called mail.me.com (not really me but...) and then I have my godaddy cert which is called mail.me.com (yes they actually match).

1. The GoDaddy one is assigned to - IMAP, POP, IIS, SMTP

2. The Self-Signed is assigned to - IMAP, POP, IIS, SMTP

3. There is the other self-signed Microsoft Exchange Server Auth Certificate which is - assigned to SMTP

4. WMSVC Cert - Assigned to NONE

5. Microsoft Exchange self signed - assigned to SMTP

However, when I browse to my OWA site or try to configure an "Exchange" profile on either iPhone or Windows it actually is using the Self-Signed mail.me.com instead of the GoDaddy mail.me.com

And I cannot for the life of me figure out how in the world I resolve this so my wifes phone works.

Thanks so much!!!

Litigation Hold with Archive Mailboxes and Discovery Holds

$

Hi all

I have a customer that is moving to Exchange 2013 on prem from Exchange 2007.

They are wanting to use Archive mailboxes using Direct attached storage and 3 copies of the data and separate databases for primary mailboxes and archive mailboxes. They want to keep primary mailboxes lean and move items to the archive mailbox after 2 months. This will be implemented using retention policies. They also want to enable litigation hold on a good number of mailboxes.

Reading here it appears that there is a "Recoverable Items 14 days move to archive" default policy that should move items in the Recoverable Items folder into the archive mailbox. I assumed that this would be all Recoverable Items subfolders including DiscoveryHolds, reading the article.

During testing items that are deleted from the primary mailbox when a mailbox is on Litigation hold, stay in the DiscoveryHolds folder in primary mailbox and never seem to move to the Archive mailbox. I am using “Get-MailboxFolderStatistics -FolderScope RecoverableItems”  to view the items and sizes. Even after 18 days the items remain in the primary mailbox. Items deleted from the archive go to the DiscoveryHolds folder of recoverable items in the archive mailbox. I have tried forcing the managed folder assistant but that does not improve things

Can someone confirm how this actually works since the documentation says one thing but reality sems different. If deleted items from the primary mailbox remain in the primary mailbox then there seems little point in having archive mailboxes if litigation hold is in place. Otherwise the primary mailbox will end up having 7 years of deleted items in it as per the litigation hold duration .

Thanks

5.1.1 IMCEAEX error

We Disabled two mailboxes and disabled the AD accounts associated with them.

We then added the associated emails as additional emails to another account.

Now, when trying to send email to one email address, we are getting :

Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:

Ouremail@TheDomain.ext The e-mail address you entered couldn't be found. Check the address and try resending the message. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk.

Diagnostic information for administrators:

Generating server: EXCHANGE.TheDomain.ext

I have gone in and added the X500 address of the account based on the error above... I've added the old X400 address.

I have deleted the cached email (all of them) from autocomplete, etc.

The server doesn't see the bounced messages when doing troubleshooting, but sees several others from an old employee email that should be getting those.

EAC - Blank page after singing in

Hi,

I am supporting a hybrid deployment of Office 365 with Exchange 2013. After clicking 'Sign In' at the log in screen of the on premise EAC, a completely blank white page is presented.

This is deployment has been running successfully for almost 2 years and has only encountered this issue in the past two weeks.

Are there any reasons why this might happen?

Thanks

Generating a read status report via Get-MessageTrackingReport - RecipientTrackingEvents only shows delivery status

$

I have been tasked with generating a report on the number of staff that read a particular message sent to an internal distribution group.

Read Status tracking is enabled in the exchange organization.

When using the Search-MessageTrackingReport and Get-MessageTrackingReport cmdlets i t seems that the RecipientTrackingEvents property only shows delivery status, not read status.

I can view read status in ECP by selecting individual recipients however this has a very large number of recipients and it is not feasible to check the recipients individually.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to pull this info out of the Message Tracking Reports via powershell?

Thank You!

Reduction of SafetyNetHoldTime

$

Hello Exchange Admins,

I wanted to get some confirmation from the community in regard to reducing the size of SafteyNetHoldTime.

We have 80 DBs, each with 3 normal copies and 1 lagged copy with a ReplayLagTime of 7 days.

Our SafetyNetHoldTime is set to 14 days.

The mail.que file is getting a little large and we are running a bit low on disk space on the Exchange boxes.

Is it okay to reduce the SafteyNetHoldTime to 7-8 days without any adverse side-effects and\or downtime?  Also, will this actually make a difference in the consumed disk space? I would suspect the mail.que file to reduce in size over time as it holds on to less mail, but I am not sure.

Thanks in advance!
