Exchange 2013 Content Index State

Hi,<o:p></o:p>

The Exchange environment I work with has some issues with content index states. <o:p></o:p>

We have a DAG with 3 servers. All 3 of the database content index state showed failedandsuspended. The database copies are all ok. I went through some troubleshooting to recreate the content index state on the active database and this has come back healthy. <o:p></o:p>

The other 2 copies still show as failed and suspended and I cannot get them to a healthy state. <o:p></o:p>

I have tried deleting and recreating the content index state, and I have completely removed the database copy, none of which has worked. <o:p></o:p>

MS Support have looked into this and suggested we update to CU7 or later. We currently run on CU4. <o:p></o:p>

I have 2 questions <o:p></o:p>

If I fail the database over using Move-ActiveMailboxDatabase with the -SkipClientExperienceChecks switch. what effect will this have?<o:p></o:p>

If I need to shut the server down with an active database running on it, is there a best practice for this such as putting the server into maintenance mode?<o:p></o:p>

Thanks

Exchange 2010 autocomplete not working for outlook 2016 clients

I have exchange 2010 running as part of SBS 2011.  The autocomplete works correctly for my outlook 2010 clients. I have recently added outlook 2016 clients. I cannot get them to connect.  The user information is successfully populated, however, outlook crashes before it can open.

Any help is appreciated.

Total size used in Drive c is not reflecting correctly from the Drive c size available

We have 2 Windows 2012 R2 server with Exchange 2013 servers installed which are part in DAG group, the exchange servers are working fine. I am just troubled with one of the exchange server because the Total size used in Drive c is not reflecting correctly from the Drive c size available, the database is on the drive c. We have 2TB in drive c and the total used space is about 270GB but if you look at the available space its  more than 1TB is used. I am worried because maybe one day the disk will become full, below are the captured image. Note, the other exchange server is reflecting the available size correctly. These are 2 identical servers so i am expecting that these 2 servers will have same available size. Hoping for any help..regards

Publish Adresslist from existing OU

Hello,

is it possible to publish a adresslist based on AD-Information from a OU to a specified AD-Group or OU?

It's a Windows 2013 Exchange with Office 2013 Clients.

Or a better way to publish the contacs of the OU to the Menbers of the OU?

Thanks for hints and tips!

Event ID 2142, 2077, 2069 MSExchangeADTopology Exchange 2013

Hello,

I have just inherited a slightly abused new server as part of my job and it looks like the previous admin was using a live single domain as a test bed.

From what I have been able to determine this windows 2008R2 server started life as a single name domain (no FQDN) that had exchange 2013 running on it (sin I know).  A domain rename was performed and from what I can tell it did change the domain name to a FQDN environment.  (it went for COMPANY to COMPANY.COM)

I have been able to clean up most of the other ghosts in the machine except when it comes to exchange.  I get event ID 2142(error), 2077 (info), and 2069 (info) repeatedly it cycles every 2 minutes:

It looks to me that exchange is still looking for the old domain name.  Does anyone know how to point it to the correct domain name?

Exchange is currently down and I am unable to log into EAC, OWA or Exchange Management Powershell.  I am also unable to un-install exchange as it is reporting active mailboxes and I can't delete them because I am unable to log in.

My overall goal is to remove exchange from this server and put it on a separate server but until I can get exchange working to a point where I can remove the mailboxes, I am stuck.

Any and all help appreciated.

Exchange 2013 - Arbitration mailbox moves

I have two Exchange 2013 servers in two physical sites (both sites have 2008R2 DCs with DNS and GC). The first server we built is acting up to the point that MS Support actually recommended decommissioning it and rebuilding from scratch. Simple question......is it safe to move the Arbitration mailboxes to the second server or are there things I should consider prior to moving cause there might be hidden issues?

In my lab environment there were no obvious problems, but then again it's a lab and we rarely see those hidden gems pop up till you do it in a production environment.

Thanks

Exchange Diagnostic Service issues

about a month ago we started getting alerts from our monitoring software that the diagnostic service on a standalone Exchange 2013 CU7 was down. Then, five minutes later another alert that the Diagnostic service was back up. This happens every 2 hours. When I connect to that server on the first alert I can see that the diagnostic service is down, but it is promptly restarted automatically. I found the following events in the application log but can't seem to find anything that sounds similar on the web.

First eventID 1007 Source MSExchangeDiagnostics

Failed to create or start performance logs with error: System.ArgumentException: Value does not fall within the expected range.
   at PlaLibrary.DataCollectorSetClass.start(Boolean Synchronous)
   at Microsoft.Exchange.Diagnostics.PerformanceLogger.PerformanceLogSet.StartLog(Boolean synchronous)
   at Microsoft.Exchange.Diagnostics.PerformanceLogger.PerformanceLogMonitor.CheckPerflogStatus(). Performance log: ExchangeDiagnosticsPerformanceLog.

Immediately followed by EventID 4999 Source MSExchange Common

Watson report about to be sent for process id: 15436, with parameters: E12IIS, c-RTL-AMD64, 15.00.1044.025, M.E.Diagnostics.Service, M.E.Diagnostics.PerformanceLogger, M.E.D.P.PerformanceLogSet.StartLog, System.ArgumentException, 95c6, 15.00.1044.021.
ErrorReportingEnabled: True

I would love to find out what is causing this and how to prevent it from happening further. Is there a way to completely reset the Diagnostic functions in Exchange? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

TD

Exchange 2013 meeting room issue

Dear Support,

In our Exchange 2013 we have facing couple of issues which may require your assistance to achieve.

  • In Exchange room mailbox Auto approve & decline meeting  request is not working (Basically its approving all the requests).
  • We need to hide one of the meeting room from all the users and only one department  require to enable view
  • One of the meeting room has enable auto approve & decline rule in the delegation and we need to send notification to meeting room administrator.

Appreciate if you could arrange one of your engineer to guide us with regards to these points.

FSRM SMTP cannot send email

I'm trying to setup "Email Notifications" on one of our File Servers (STOR350).  This is what I've done so far without any luck of it working.

Exchange 2013 - I've created a Receive Connector called "Internal-Relay".  Keep in mind this connector works with other servers needing to send emails.

    Security: Transport Layer Security (TLS)
    Permission groups: Exchange users/Anonymous users
Remote network settings: ###.##.###.## (our file server's IP)
Network Adapter bindings: (All available IPv4) Port 2525

File Server (STOR350) - File Server Resource Manager Options

    SMTP IP address = xxx.xx.xxx.xx
    Default administrator recipient = me@domain.com
Default "From" email address = me@domain.com

Selected Test E-mail = Received the following error...

Error: IFsrmEmailExternal::SendMail, 0x8004531c, Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to send as this sender

I've seen on the web that I need to add "Send As" permissions, I did that and it hasn't made a difference either.

    Add-Adpermission -Identity me@domain.com -user "domain.com\stor350$" -extendedrights "Send-as"

Fun fact... In the Windows 2003 world we didn’t have to do anything at all on either the Exchange server or the file server rather than specify the obvious settings in “File Server Resource Manager”.

File Server (STOR350) - Win2008 R2
Exchange Server - Win2012/Ex2013 build 1076.9/GFI MailEssentials/No Antivirus

Test-ExchangeServerHealth script not showing up the right activation preference.

Hi,

Thanks for reading this.

I have downloaded the Test-ExchangeServerHealth script from TechNet created by Mr.Paul.

The HTML report is all green except the activation preference. The script is not pulling up the right activation preference.

Please advise.

Outlook Web App - How to restrict the "edit" access available to change account information

We have Exchange 2010 SP3 Enterprise and would like to restrict the users from changing their information like Display Name, Phone Numbers available under "My Account" in "options" in Outlook Web App.

The access allows the users to change this information on their own that creates confusion among other users. The users are able to change their "Display Name" as well and save them.

Appreciate any expert guidance.

Thank you

Mails are resent automatically

Hi,

We have Exchange 2010 Enterprise with RU8 and two of our users have complained that very specific old mails have been resent to the same recipients automatically without their knowledge. We have checked the headers and not able to locate any information from which client it has been sent as the Client Access Servers are behind a Hardware Load Balancer. We are seeing only HLB IP.

Is it anyway we can trace the original sender/client or client IP in this case? Both the users have delegated either their mailbox or calendar and ActiveSync Users with latest iOS smart phone. Both are using Outlook 2010 Professional with very latest updates.

Would be really grateful with any expert guidance.

Thank you

Exchange 2013 server and cluster errors

Hi!

I'm currently running Exchange 2010 SP3 UR5 and have set up three Exchange 2013 SP1 CU10 servers in preparation for migration.

The three Exchange 2013 servers are set up in a DAG without an AAP, witness server is a non Exchange server. The DAG appears to be working without issue (no failovers, manual failover works fine) but I am getting errors both on the Windows Server side and application side (reported via SCOM 2012 R2).

On each server I get the following error in Server Manager: Exchange2013DAG Target name resolution error.

Additionally, the following error keeps getting generated by SCOM for each server:

Alert: Cluster resource failed

Source: Cluster Service

Path: VEXCH002.DOMAIN.LOCAL

Last modified by: System

Last modified time: 12/28/2015 12:32:17 PM Alert description: Cluster resource 'Cluster IP Address' of type 'IP Address' in clustered role 'Cluster Group' failed.

Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart it.  Check the resource and group state using Failover Cluster Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

Running a Test-ReplicationHealth returns this:

PSComputerName     : vexch002.domain.local
RunspaceId         : b89a5678-dc6e-44bb-8e5b-9438e2bedaa6
PSShowComputerName : False
Server             : VEXCH002
Check              : QuorumGroup
CheckDescription   : Checks that the quorum and witness for the database availability group is healthy.
Result             : *FAILED*
Error              : Quorum resource 'Cluster Group' is not online on server 'vexch001'. Database availability group
'Exchange2013DAG' might not be reachable or may have lost redundancy. Error:
                             Cluster IP Address: Failed
                             Cluster Name: Offline
is offline. Please verify that the Cluster service is running on the server.

Identity           :
IsValid            : True
ObjectState        : New

Again, the DAG appears to be functioning as it should. I've tried researching the error and have attempted a couple things such as manually bringing the cluster group online, which actually caused a failover and didn't seem to help.

Any help is much appreciated! Things seem to be working but I don't feel comfortable moving forward with our migration with these kind of errors.

How to list members of dynamic distribution groups ?

Hi all,

I'm looking for a way to list members of my dynamic distribution groups.

In Exchange 2010, it was very simple and reliable. But with Exchange 2013...

I tried this :

$DDG = Get-DynamicDistributionGroup "DynamicDistributionGroupName"
Get-Recipient -RecipientPreviewFilter $DDG.RecipientFilter

But it systematically returns all recipients of my organization.

I've opened a case with MS, but they seem to be a bit lost about that... The case is 1 month old...

Thank you.

Have a good end of the year 2015 !

Expand a truncated column in Exchange powershell

I am try to produce a report of all users AutoReplyStatus. I have put together the following script. First, the Identity column is truncated and second when I try to pipe it to a file it does not write any data to the file. Any assistance appreciated.

creating new users - Exchange EAC vs. AD Users and Computers

I'm currently using Exchange 2007 and working on upgrading to Exchange 2013.  In the older 2007 version I remember reading somewhere that it would be better to create users in AD Users and Computers first and then go to the Exchange Management Console and create their mailbox.

In Exchange 2013, is this process really needed anymore?  Or is it safe to just create new user accounts with mailboxes using the Exchange Admin Center?

How to Hide mobile numbers from the GAL

Dear all,

I have exchange 2013 environment, I want to hide the mobile number from the GAL. how can we do that

Mailbox migration reports it completed, ecp shows 0 mailboxes have moved and the mailbox does not move

I am migrating 1600 mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013, over 700 have moved fine, but 1 mailbox fails repeatedly.

When I run the migration in ecp it says the migration status is complete, but it also says that 0 mailboxes were synced, 0 were finalized and 0 failed. I also receive an email saying it completed successfully. The only thing, apart from the fact it says it worked when it didn't, is that the Total column changes from 1 to 0 while it is in Syncing status.

I'm confused, why is this not working? What do I need to do to fix it?
